Promoting childhood literacy across the Okefenoke REMC service area is the motivation behind OREMC’s $8,000 donation to Ferst Readers supporting chapters in Brantley, Camden, Charlton and Glynn counties in Georgia, and Baker and Nassau counties in Florida.
OREMC Reduces Wholesale Power Cost Rate
Effective May 1, OREMC’s wholesale power cost rate decreased by $.012416 per kWh. Based on 1,000 kWh per month, for example, your OREMC bill will decrease by $12.41.
OREMC's Hilliard Office Welcomes Sonya Cooley
It was Sonya Cooley’s dream to work at Okefenoke REMC. She grew up with the “REA” as her mom, Esther Woods, worked at OREMC’s Hilliard, Florida, office for 28 years before retiring as an operations clerk in 2022. It wasn’t until November of 2023 that an opportunity presented itself and Cooley came on board as OREMC’s newest member services representative.

OREMC Foundation Celebrates Grant Awards
The Okefenoke REMC Foundation is pleased to announce grants totaling more than $42,000 were awarded to 14 organizations in the first quarter of 2023. Next application deadline for grant requests is April 7.
Rodney Harris Joins OREMC Crew in Hilliard
Rodney Harris debated being a truck driver or an electrical lineworker. His father was a lineman, and his grandfather a foreman, both of whom worked for Sumter Utilities. They wanted Harris to go into the military, but he instead decided to follow in their footsteps and is Okefenoke REMC’s newest lineman working out of the Hilliard, Florida, office.

OREMC Storytime Shares the Magic of Books
Get ready. Get set. Read! Okefenoke REMC is pleased to announce the launch of its virtual OREMC Storytime, in partnership with Ferst Readers. Each Sunday at 1 p.m., a new story will be posted on OREMC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Books are read by OREMC employees, board directors/trustees and/or community members targeting the co-op’s littlest members.

Okefenoke REMC is now accepting applications for its scholarship program. Annually OREMC awards 10 scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each.
