35th Annual Golf Tournament Celebrates Fundraising Record
With tears in her eyes, Linda Henderson, coordinator for Branching Out in Brantley, along with Janice Brown, happily accepted the $29,000 donation to the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., presented by Okefenoke REMC as a result of it 35th Annual Golf Tournament held in April.
“We are so grateful and know how much work you all put into making the golf tournament a success,” said Hendeson. “We just can’t thank you enough.”
Members of the OREMC Golf Committee assured them it was a labor love given the funds raised set another record, representing more than a 3,000% increase in funds donated to the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc. (SECU), over the past decade. All funds directly benefit cancer patients undergoing treatment who live in Brantley, Pierce and Ware counties by providing financial assistance—up to $1,500 a year— to assist with them with medical expenses related to treatment. This includes: medications, supplies, supplements, gas cards, durable medical equipment, wigs and other services depending on individual patient needs. For information about SECU, find them on Facebook or call 912-452-7070.
“We continue to be humbled by the amazing level of support this golf tournament receives from our community, vendors and partners,” OREMC Director of Communications & Marketing Michele Hutchins enthused. “It has grown exponentially over the years and sold out two months in advance for the fifth year in a row. Our team invests a lot of blood, sweat and tears to make sure it is a great event for our players, sponsors and volunteers. We are so grateful to not only celebrate 35 years of the tournament, but also continuing to expand the number of patients the funds raised are able to support.”
