OREMC Golf Tournament Raises Over $28,000 for Cancer Patients
To say the Annual OREMC Golf Tournament is a labor of love for the employees responsible for the event is an understatement. Even more rewarding is making a record-breaking $28,719.29 donation to the Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., from the proceeds raised at the 2025 tournament held on April 26 at The Lakes Course at Laura S. Walker State Park in Waycross.
Linda Henderson, and her brother Larry Lee, accepted the donation on behalf of the Branching Out in Brantley arm of the Southeast Cancer Unit. Speechless at first, Henderson said, “This is such a blessing, and we so appreciate all the work OREMC puts into the tournament. We currently have 170 patients we are helping across the three counties—Brantley, Pierce and Ware. This means so much.”
The Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc., is an all-volunteer organization providing financial assistance to cancer patients who live in the three-county area and are currently undergoing treatment. Patients can receive up to $1,500 in aid per calendar year to help offset the cost of travel for treatments, medications, medical supplies, wigs and/or nutritional supplements.
“We welcomed several new sponsors this year, and other long-term sponsors stepped up their donations,” explains OREMC Director of Communications & Marketing Michele Hutchins. “Combined with a Hole-In-One contest and some really great prizes in our tournament raffle, the tournament set a new fundraising record! We are so grateful for the support of our golfers, volunteers, vendor partners and our community for their continued support in helping grow the tournament. Their commitment to the tournament enables us to make a difference in the lives of people living in our OREMC communities.”
Presented by Oglethorpe Power Corporation/Georgia Transmission/Georgia System Operations, the OREMC Golf Tournament’s major sponsors included: EnerVision, Hospitality Sponsor; Abentras Benefit Administrators and Balch & Bingham, LLP, Range Sponsors; Altec, Towel Sponsor; Asplundh, Prize Sponsor; Southeastern Bank, Golf Ball Sponsor; Cart Sponsors Asplundh, Green Power EMC, Pike Electric, Stifel Greer Wealth Advisors, and TerraVolt Solutions; Kings Colonial Ford, Hole-In-One Sponsor; Fairway Sponsors Beach Timber, Tri-State Utility Products, Helena Agri-Enterprises, Meridian Cooperative and Mountaineer Electric.
