OREMC Welcomes Spencer Lee

November 9th, 2022

Okefenoke REMC welcomes Spencer Lee to the co-op as its newest meter technician. A December 2020 graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in electrical engineering, Lee first worked at Canoochee EMC before joining OREMC.

Having a father who is a transmission lineman for Georgia Power, Lee was not unfamiliar with the electric utility industry. He said he was definitely influenced by his father to pursue an engineering degree, not to mention he has a natural affinity for math. The move to OREMC was motivated by wanting to get back closer to home.  And his college roommate, James Allen, was already an engineer at OREMC, which means they once again are working together.

“I enjoy being out in the field every day,” Lee states. “Working with the apparatus technicians, Brandon Jordan and Jody Miller, I help them in the substations and installing regulators. The other meter techs, Aldean Hodges and Billy Ray Harris, are teaching me about the co-op, the system overall and building relationships with our consumer-members. It really helps to get a better picture of how everything comes together from plans on paper to installation on the system.”

When he isn’t working Lee can be found training in Brazilian jiu jitsu, a self-defense martial art and combat sport. Lee says it builds discipline and is good cardio. He also enjoys hunting and hiking the North Georgia and Colorado mountains.
