New “Pay Where You Shop” Bill Payment Option
Beginning Monday May 3, Okefenoke REMC consumer-members will have a new bill payment option—paying their OREMC bill where they shop. Authorized payment locations will include stores such as Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens, accepting cash payments only.
The three-step process is simple. First, OREMC consumer-members need to have a barcode. That barcode can be found on the back of their printed bill or retrieved online with their OREMC account number at oremc.sedccheckout.com. Next, on the same website, search for the nearest authorized payment locations. Then, present the OREMC barcode to the cashier at the register and pay cash for the desired amount on the OREMC bill. The payment is credited immediately to the OREMC member account. It is important to note that a $1.50 convenience fee is charged at the time of transaction.
“We have looked at alternative payment methods previously,” notes Eric Dyal, OREMC Manager of Finance & Accounting, “but when our billing and accounting partner introduced this cash option at authorized payment locations, we felt it was a good fit in terms of cost and member convenience given our service area covers eight counties across two states, much of which is rural.”
OREMC Customer Service Supervisor Nancy White agrees, “Adding the ‘pay where you shop’ option for our members makes it much more convenient for them as the participating retailers are typically places they already shop at on a regular basis. Given many of our members do like to pay their bills in cash, and prefer a face-to-face transaction, now they won’t have to make a special trip or go out of their way to come to one of our offices for that transaction.”
The new “pay where you shop” is just one of the many payment options OREMC members have including: auto-pay, bank draft, credit/debit card, e-check, by mail, at a district office or PrePay.
