OREMC Makes Donation to Hilliard Robotics Team

November 10th, 2020

The Flash Drives are an exuberant group of students that make up the Hilliard Middle Senior High School Robotics Team. Their level of enthusiasm kicked up a notch when Okefenoke REMC presented them a $2,500 check that will help fuel their readiness in upcoming robotic competitions.

Christiana Morgan, science teacher and team coach, advises the group as they navigate their way through hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) learning to build a robot and compete in a series of challenges against other teams. As with many things in 2020/2021, the competitions will be virtual, but the team’s excitement and commitment to rising to the challenge is very real.

The students took turns sharing their areas of responsibility from community awareness and fundraising to engineering documentation and demonstrated understanding of the game manuals. The “game” plan plotted out on the white board helps them keep track of their readiness leading up to their first competition on December 11.

“Helping the Hilliard Robotics Team is a perfect example of how OREMC supports education in our communities,” said OREMC Member Service Representative Dewayne Johns. “Promoting the growth and development of our young people academically, increases the knowledge capital in our communities and fosters work force development and economic well-being.”

Donations such as this are made possible to qualifying organizations using funds from OREMC’s unclaimed capital credits.
