OREMC Welcomes New System Operator

March 2nd, 2020

Okefenoke REMC is pleased to welcome Cody Ragsdale as a system operator in the cooperative’s control center located at the Nahunta office. He joins Bradley Mobley, Joey Steedley and Ana OREMC's news system operator Cody RagsdaleStrickland in providing 24/7 coverage of OREMC’s system operations. Using SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition), system operators can recognize potential problems in the substations and down line devices and assist with power restoration efforts by coordinating communication with line crews and/or remote operation of substation equipment.

Ragsdale previously worked for PIKE Electric and holds an Electrical Lineworker Certification from Coastal Pines Technical College, as well as a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Grand Canyon University. He says he wanted to get back to electric utility work, noting, “Having worked in the industry before, I understand what the linemen are talking about when they call in and am familiar with the basic terminology . . .I understand the language. Right now, I’m focused on getting up to speed working with online mapping and learning OREMC’s electronic systems.”

“We are pleased to have Cody join our OREMC family,” says Travis Page, OREMC manager of operations. “He is a really good fit with our other system operators, and his previous utility and educational experience will make him a quick study regarding our operations, processes and procedures.”

Immediately before joining OREMC, Ragsdale worked in special education at Golden Isles Elementary School in Brunswick. He had also coached baseball at Glynn Academy with his old high school baseball coach from Douglas, Georgia, where he grew up.

Ragsdale enjoys hunting and fishing during his down time, and spending time with his wife and six-month-old daughter. The family resides in Sterling.
