OREMC Announces New System Operator
Ana Chesser is Okefenoke REMC’s newest system operator in the Cooperative’s control center located at the Nahunta office. She joins Bradley Mobley, James Riggins and Joey Steedley in providing 24/7 coverage of system operations using the new SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system. With SCADA, system operators can recognize potential problems in the substations and assist with power restoration efforts by coordinating communication with line crews and/or remote operation of substation equipment.
“I like the decision-making opportunities I have in this position,” notes Chesser, “and being an integral part of the operation side of the Co-op.”
Chesser originally joined OREMC in April 2017 as a customer service representative working the front counter and drive-up window in the Nahunta office. She transitioned to her new role in August, and has learned a lot about the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity in the process of completing her Integrated Transmission Systems Certification administered by the Georgia Transmission Corporation.
A Nahunta native, Chesser previously worked at the Brantley County Commissioners Office and the Satilla Grocery. She is currently enrolled at Coastal Pines Technical College pursuing an associate’s degree in business technology. She expects to graduate in December 2019.
